We've had a very hot, but wonderful week getting to know each other in room 207!  We have a fantastic class and I can't wait to see all they achieve this year.  We've talked a lot this week about having a growth mindset in 3rd grade.  Please have your child explain what it means to have a growth mindset!

NWEA Testing

NWEA testing is scheduled to begin this week.  The tests are taken in our classroom on the laptop computers.  Students will be tested in the areas of math and reading.    Please make sure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast on our testing days.  This is our schedule for next week:

Tuesday, September 11th 8:45 A.M.
Wednesday, September 12th 10:45 A.M.

Word Study
We will begin word study this week.  Students will learn a new spelling pattern each week and receive a list of words to practice at their level.  The student level is determined by an initial spelling inventory on Mondays.  Each week there will be 12 pattern words, 5 additional high frequency words, and a dictation sentence.  These pattern words will be practiced in class throughout the week using a variety of hands-on word sorts and activities. We will have a test on these words on Fridays.  Lists can be found on the back of the weekly homework sheet.

Back to School Night
Back to School Night for parents is scheduled for Monday, September 17th.  Third grade parents will meet all together in the media center beginning at 7:15.  Mrs. Ettinger and I will present our school year expectations, curriculum and other important information about 3rd grade.  After we talk with you, please join us in our classrooms to sign up for volunteer opportunities to help in the classroom, with parties, mystery readers, and other events.  Third Grade is a big transition year and I look forward to working with you to make this year a success for your child.  We will finish by 8:00.  Please mark your calendar and plan to attend this important night!  See you all soon!

Have a wonderful week!
