Laps for Lincoln

We had a slow start to the Laps for LIncoln collection this week.  Students are encouraged to raise at least $30 to meet our classroom goal.  Let's do all we can to support our school! There are 3 more collection days this week.  We hope all of our third grade families can come out and enjoy the Walk-A-Thon and the wonderful food trucks on Friday night!

Reading Counts

Our Reading Counts program is up and running!  The third grade goal for this marking period is to earn 15 points.  Be sure to check in with your child to make sure they are reading and working towards taking tests to meet this goal.  

Fall Conferences

Our fall conferences take place October 10th and 11th, as well as November 7th and 8th. Those of you meeting with me in October will be receiving an email this week with your scheduled time.  I look forward to meeting with all of you soon!

Laps for Lincoln

Laps for Lincoln information and collection envelopes went home on Friday. This is the only PTO Fundraiser event for the year.  Students are encouraged to raise at least $30. There are a variety of individual prizes as well as classroom prizes. Collection dates are labeled on the envelope.  The last collection day is Friday, October 5th. Thank you for your support of LIncoln School! We hope all of our third grade families can come out and enjoy the Walk-A-Thon and the wonderful food trucks!

Back to School Night

Back to School Night for parents is scheduled this Monday, September 17^th.  Third grade parents will meet all together in the media center beginning at 7:15.  Mrs. Ettinger and I will present our school year expectations, curriculum and other important information about 3rd grade.  After we talk with you, please join us in our classrooms to sign up for conferences, as well as volunteer opportunities to help in the classroom, with parties, mystery readers, and other events.  Third Grade is a big transition year and I look forward to working with you to make this year a success for your child.  We will finish by 8:00.  See you all soon!

Student Council
Third graders are able to participate in our Lincoln School Student Council this year! Campaigning for Student Council Representatives in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will take place this week.  Interested students will bring home a permission slip on Monday with all the details.  Candidates are allowed to hang two posters if desired, one in the classroom, and one in the hallway.  Speeches will be given on Thursday and are limited to 2 minutes, with voting to follow.

We've had a very hot, but wonderful week getting to know each other in room 207!  We have a fantastic class and I can't wait to see all they achieve this year.  We've talked a lot this week about having a growth mindset in 3rd grade.  Please have your child explain what it means to have a growth mindset!

NWEA Testing

NWEA testing is scheduled to begin this week.  The tests are taken in our classroom on the laptop computers.  Students will be tested in the areas of math and reading.    Please make sure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast on our testing days.  This is our schedule for next week:

Word Study
We will begin word study this week.  Students will learn a new spelling pattern each week and receive a list of words to practice at their level.  The student level is determined by an initial spelling inventory on Mondays.  Each week there will be 12 pattern words, 5 additional high frequency words, and a dictation sentence.  These pattern words will be practiced in class throughout the week using a variety of hands-on word sorts and activities. We will have a test on these words on Fridays.  Lists can be found on the back of the weekly homework sheet.

I am looking forward to starting the school year on Tuesday!  There are so many exciting events and learning opportunities in third grade.  We will spend this week getting to know each other and learning all the routines and procedures of our classroom.  Don't forget to have your child bring their paper bag homework, a water bottle and healthy snack, as well as a book to read on the first day.  See you soon!
